Enquiries about new work are welcomed from both private individuals or public companies & commercial organisations.

Estimates are given without obligation from details supplied by the client. The same degree of professional expertise, quality of design and craftsmanship, as well as attention to detail applies whether the project is large or small.

Projects can be discussed and queries about suitability of treatment of text, use of materials etc settled, to ensure that the finished work is tailored exactly to the client's requirements, delivered on time and on budget.

Commissioning a calligraphic project:

Each job is unique, so to assist with the preparation of the estimate, it is important to have the following information:

The text(s) to be used as the basis for the project

The purpose of the work and who/what it is for

Style: Formal or informal; traditional or modern

Colour preference - may be important in context

An idea of budget

Deadline for the finished work (including framing, if appropriate). Enough time should be allowed for completion, especially with complex pieces that involve the use of special techniques.

An estimate can be worked out using this information, with a suggestion of letter style, any decoration/special treatments and materials that could be used.

NB. Special treatments and materials (eg. gilding, heraldry, original illustration, use of vellum, framing)

or a tight deadline can make a considerable difference to the overall cost of the finished work.

Next steps:

1. When the estimate, style & materials have been agreed, a design is worked out and a full size working layout prepared, showing colour scheme.

2. Working layout emailed/posted for approval.

3. Finished work is started following approval of layout.

4. Image of finished piece emailed/posted for approval.

5. Work dispatched to client.

Payment

A deposit is payable with order to cover intial work to layout stage (2). Balance, plus cost of delivery (method of dispatch to be agreed) to be paid before finished work is delivered.
