Specialist techniques:

Gilding for starters:

Simple methods for flat and slightly raised gilding, with a project to use them.

Traditional gilding:

Making and using plaster gesso with transfer and loose gold leaf. (2 days, but can be shortened to 1.)

Illluminated & decorated letters:

Choose your favourite period style of illumination from Celtic to Renaissance to study the processes involved.

Experimental gilding:

Using some traditional (and some unorthodox) tools, methods and materials to produce striking contemporary results.

 

Skin deep - preparation and use of vellum:

Writing or painting on this exquisite material is a wonderful experience! Learn how to prepare and stretch vellum ready for use.

Painting techniques:

Using watercolour, gouache or egg tempera for decorated letters and miniature painting.
